On October 21st, 1927, the S.S. Republic (photo above)
took Carl, his mom Helene and 3 sisters back
to New York from Bremen, Germany.
They arrived in New York on
November 11, 1927.

Margaret Katheryn Innes was born
on July 30th, 1917
in Crystal, North Dakota.

Margaret grew up in Crystal, ND. Crystal is in Pembina County. The population was 167 at the 2000 census. Crystal was founded in 1879.

Margaret left Crystal, ND at about age 18. She went to Fargo and got a job as a cleaning lady.

We don't have many photos of young Margaret.
